Gillette Inspiration: Science/Social Studies Field Trip

Student engineers share investigation results.
Today we took our fifth graders to Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution.

The field trip was organized by two teachers on my team, and they did a great job.

First, we toured the stadium a bit, then met in the press room to apply engineering and science standards as students tested balls to see which ones bounced and rolled best on specific surfaces. The investigation was well organized and gave students a great feel for ways to test products and work as a team to share results and rank the product.

After that, we ate lunch outside and then toured the Patriots Hall of Fame, a modern, inviting Museum of Patriots' History. As part of our tour, we watched a film about the history of the film. The film highlighted teamwork, perseverance, and contribution. Our guide was a terrific storyteller who kept the children's attention.

The New England Patriots and Revolution teams are a big part of New England culture and Gillette Stadium is a magnificent structure so it was great to give all students a chance to see and learn about this part of New England recreation and culture in such a positive way.
