Week Two: School Year 2019-2020

Wonderful mentor text for this week's writing focus.
After a nice four day Labor Day break, students will return to school for their second week. We'll continue to focus on positive routines that build independence and leave room for rich teaching and learning. The week will focus on the following learning areas:

Math Routines, Team, and Numerical Reasoning
Children will engage in a large number of activities that build positive routines, team, and numerical reasoning for the next three weeks.

Hatchet
We'll continue this read aloud with a focus on story elements and read aloud routines.

My Three Words
Students will complete their three word mini posters, then film themselves saying their names and their three words while holding their mini poster. All of the films will be melded together for one class film to show on Curriculum Night.

The Best Part of Me
My colleague who leads writing will foster a beautiful writing piece using the mentor text, The Best Part of Me.

Reading
My colleague who leads reading will introduce students to reading routines related to choosing great books, independent reading, and share.

Science and Social Studies
We'll begin our three-times-a-week science and social studies rotation. I'll take the lead in life science with a biomimicry composting unit beginning with a focus on what it means to learn outdoors, use science journals, and let nature be your teacher/guide.

I'll go in a bit early today to prep the schedule and materials so that we get off to a great start.
