Snow Duty: What to wear?

Our big beautiful playground is covered with snow which means that teachers have snow duty--time to watch the students climb, slide, run, roll, and play in the snow. That also means that we have to be ready to quickly don our snow pants, boots, gloves, hats, and jackets so we're ready to do our once or twice daily snow duty.

Actually, I write this because this is another reality of school life. For example our time-on-task academic minutes equal the teaching day and more, but nowhere in that document does it include the five-to-fifteen minutes it takes young children to dress up for snow play, and multiply that by two recesses a day and you've got up to thirty minutes. Yet, it's worth it as the children LOVE playing in the snow with their friends and it's great exercise too.

So today I'll dress for teaching and snow play too--it's a varied palette when it comes to teaching young children. No two days are ever the same, and there's always a new challenge to tackle--one new challenge for me will be a new year of snowy recesses.
