This morning I've set aside some time for coaching meetings. The meetings will range from watching a child complete an online task and analyzing the effort with the student with questions such as "How's it going? What's confusing? How can I help you strategize with this learning tool better? Let's look at your stats?
I'll also work with a few students with specific challenges related to problem solving. I want to see first-hand how they work through a word problem and identify the challenge. Then I'll coach them through that.
With another child, I noticed that his name is no longer on the online coaching list. Did he remove it? Did I remove it? I want to meet with him and figure that out.
While I'm meeting with students identified by online reports and in-class observations, the others will work their way through an online learning menu both in the class with laptops and in the outside computer lab. Fortunately a capable teaching assistant joins me and helps out at this time.
Coaching meetings provide lots of personal, targeted support for students and help to right the learning paths in the direction of good learning for each student.
I'm looking forward to this one-to-one and small group time to coach students with care.
