Team Research Starts

As noted in a previous post, I'm moving the endangered species research project to a team research project this year. The project will have a greater focus on collaboration and presentation.

After a number of introductory activities including the Frayer Model vocabulary Google presentation, reference posters, and animal adaptation work, students chose reservations, and today we made a number of teams.

I shared a Google presentation template with each team to guide their work.  And soon, I'll lead them through a step-by-step research process including the following steps:
  • collecting facts
  • creating Google maps
  • using our endangered species website to research more facts and information,
  • writing a script for presentation
  • creating a one-minute commercial to teach others about their presentation (a teaser)
  • creating a service learning project
As we work, I'm sure students will adapt the project in a number of ways to make it their own.  In the meantime, I'll coach, mentor, and guide with respect to the research, collaboration, and presentation goals.
