Each week there are a few events that are particularly exciting, the kinds of teaching/learning events that invigorate the classroom and motivate our presence.
First, I'm excited to see how students react to Elizabeth Suneby, author of Razia's Ray of Hope. Will the work we did together to prep for the visit make a difference? Will they ask wonderful questions, and will Ms. Suneby take the learning in directions I had not thought about?
Next, I'm excited about teaching division. We'll introduce the partial quotient method which really challenges and develops students' number sense as well as their understanding of division. I think students will be proud of how quickly they grasp this learning since we've done so much number work this year.
After that, we're just about to complete our story board, and start on another story thread. The children are beginning to really enjoy story writing, so I think our writing workshops will have greater focus, meaningful discussion, and wonderful authorship.
Hence, while it's in many ways a routine week, the learning to come will create community and growth. Now it's my job to be present, energetic, and focused to coach, mentor, and facilitate the learning to come.
