Standard #33: Reliability and Responsibility

The Massachusetts Educator Evaluation Rubric element 4F2 outlines attributes related to professional reliability and responsibility. This element relates to any student or employee situation as the attributes exemplify what good employees do--be on time, do the assigned work, and follow professional standards. This element has implications for leadership as well because for employees to be on time, do the assigned work, and follow professional standards, they need to know the school schedule, assignments, and standards with explicit detail and lead time. At times organizations can be so focused on the big ideas and efforts that they forget to share the simple protocols related to what's expected each day. Daily expectations and efforts are what add up to culture, and a positive culture is led by explicit protocols and expectations. A positive culture is also created when everyone does their part. Positive work habits and efforts are contagious, so when most people arrive on time, do the assigned work, follow standards, and have good attendance that becomes a mainstay of the organization. As stated earlier, this is a good standard for students too as it will help them to prepare for their future as hard working professionals and successful adults.
