Into the Woods

Our woodsy patch looks like this.
"We cannot create observers by saying 'observe', but by giving them the power and the means for this observation and these means are procured through education of the senses." - Maria Montessori

Today students, high school mentors, and educators will travel into the woods to explore the ecosystem. Hopefully all will dress to prevent tick bites, poison ivy, and muddy feet. Yesterday students made predictions related to their specific exploration, and today they'll find out if their predictions were accurate as they observe plant life, animals, adaptation, interaction, and evidence of the history of land and place.

Prior to the exploration, we'll have some time for Team Talk, an exchange of student ideas, needs, response, and discussion. We'll also have some time for choice so students can work on biography project, K'nex creations, play practice, organization, and other catch-up work/exploration of interest.

It's a bright, sunny day which is a good foreshadowing of the teaching/learning to come. Hopefully I'll add some images at the end of the day to document the exploration.
