Teaching Focus: First week in March 2020

Last week was a rather tough week at school. This was mainly due to a number of needed transitions with regard to program finesse and focus. With those changes in place, I believe this week will be a more positive week--a week with more focused, timely transitions, time for students support, and dedication to specific curriculum efforts.

IXL
Our system invested in the IXL tech program as one way that students may practice math. Today students will explore IXL and learn how they might use this intelligent assistant to support their math learning.

Fractions
Tomorrow students will begin to dig into fraction learning with depth. There's lots to study here and the students are ready for this unit.

Climate Change Projects
Thursday and Friday are homeroom days--days when students will focus on completing their team preparation for next Monday's Climate Change Fair.

Independent Reading
Due to the absence of a valuable Title One teacher, I'll focus on a large group of independent readers today. I look forward to coaching their efforts with regard to choosing just right books and reading spots to help them focus and enjoy their reading.

Professional Learning
Today I'll catch up on some professional learning tasks related to science education. Then I'll focus in on students' climate change project work.

Local Union
Our local union continues to do extraordinary work when it comes to advocating for and supporting top-notch work conditions in our school system. This is important work, work that allows us to teach with strength and live good lives too.

Administrative Efforts
Our team will review field trip accounts, payments for special events, and reimbursement for classroom materials. We'll review our team to-do list, and complete a number of small tasks that support the teaching we do each day.

Though still cold outside, it is nice to see and smell hints of spring in the air. A good week to come. Onward.
