Putting the week to rest

Some Fridays end easy, and others are less ready to be put to rest. It's one of those turning points in the year. The start was extremely busy, and now that we've reached a good routine, what are the next steps?

The big focus now is the students. Yes, they were rightly the focus before, but there were also many organizational issues to figure out. Now that those issues are mostly in place, it's time to focus in on the students mostly, and do what will serve them best.

That means continuing our introductory math unit, a fairly comprehensive unit that invites all students into the math teaching and learning. That also means solidifying routines for quality independent reading, read aloud, social-emotional learning, and hands-on science and social studies explorations. There's never a lack of topics to teach and projects to engage with, but there is limited time so prioritizing is essential.

So, I'll likely update the schedule tonight to make space for the important efforts--efforts that primarily focus on what I can do for the children I teach. Onward.
