The last few days

As an issue alarmed me this weekend, I realized that there are a few issues that rise to the level of alarm every year at the end of the year. This occurs because many are trying to put the finishing touches on their efforts, and with limited time it's likely that there will be some congestion. That said, it's time to move onto doing the best possible work in the days ahead which includes the following:

School Assembly
Students will present their scripts and climate change project film. It's important that I make sure they have the scripts they need and a bit of time to practice before the assembly.

Global Cardboard Challenge and more
Students will have a final rotation. During the rotation students will complete special cards, clean out their math drawers, be introduced to the global cardboard challenge (GCC), and make GCC teams. On Tuesday, students will draft plans for their project, and then on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday they'll have time to build their projects. Our Global Cardboard Arcade is planned for Monday, June 17tth but there's a chance that there will be some change due to weather issues.

Field Day Helpers and Field Day
On Wednesday, some students will have a chance to help out with field day, and on Thursday, weather permitting, students will participate in Field Day.

Transition Meeting
We'll meet with special educators to begin planning for next year's class. During this transition meeting we'll learn a lot about next year's students so it's a good time to listen, listen, and listen as that information will help us to teach well next year.

Changing Bodies
Students will have a short introduction to puberty with some well thought out films and other teaching/learning materials. This is an important program that helps to make students more comfortable with the changes they face as they grow up.

Professional Learning Event
Educators will attend a day-long professional learning day focused on math and science. This will help us with regard to our summer study and next year's science and math teaching.

Final Assembly
This will be a thoughtful assembly that marks the last day of school.

Fun Day
A number of fun activities have been planned for the final day.

Memory Books
This will likely happen next week. It's a wonderful time to allow students to look over their K-5 years, and get autographs from each other and many teachers.

Slideshow
Students and family members will view a slideshow of their K-5 years.

Clapout
Students will be clapped out on their final day.

Classroom Clean-up
The final day for teachers only will include mostly housekeeping--hopefully it won't be too hot. There will also be a final teacher meeting.

It's likely that other surprising issues will rise, issues that ring the alarm bells. It's best to put those issues on hold until the quieter, more thoughtful days of summer if possible. To end the school year well with students demands our best care and attention. That needs to be the focal point. Onward.
