If I had one word of advice for young people entering any field it would be: Be Professional
When you enter the working world anywhere there will be cliques, gossip, cheating, apathy, and more unsavory ways to being, and it's best to avoid all of that. Sometimes, in some organizations, one or more of those attributes may seem commonplace, accepted, and the thing to do, but in time that will prove wrong. Those who remain professional, are the ones that rise with respect and care.
What does it mean to be professions?
First, keep the job center stage. And, stay ethical. Be kind and helpful to colleagues, but don't accept efforts that construe poor professional behavior.
Divide home life and work life. Though the two will inevitably interact, it's best in most cases, to keep the two mostly separate.
Be respectful. You will be tempted to use disrespect at times, but you have to work at being respectful as much as you can.
Speak up when you disagree, but do it with respect.
Some situations make professionalism a challenge, but as much as possible, you have to work to move in that direction.
