We're in the midst of busy days of learning review. In a sense, it's crunch time and not unlike the experience my son is having as a college freshman readying for his finals. What's on the agenda for next week?
Reading, reading, and more reading
Students are doing a great job starting the day with "all stop and read." We will continue this effort as we know that daily reading greatly increases students' capacity to learn and live well. We'll also continue our 25-book reading challenge with the kindergarten buddies on Friday afternoons.
Science study
We'll continue our science rotations and climate change projects. I'll also ready for our triad of survival science STEAM projects which begin after April vacation including solar ovens, plant packets, and water filters. The challenge with all this engaging science study is finding time for it--there's simply more to teach than time to teach it. This is a perennial challenge in schools.
Math Study
During math tech times students will work at completing their Symphony Math expectations. Students are also using other tech tools to review all fifth grade standards. In class we're in the midst of a deep study of fractions. There's a long list of math assessments coming up so we're doing what we can to prep so that students feel confident taking the tests and so that they do their best.
Special Events
We have a science field study coming up, and there's some prep work to do to plan for a successful event.
Those are the big events for next week and the overall focus is sticking to the schedule so that we review and complete all that's expected. Onward.
