I worked with a few students today to unpack the math MCAS graphic organizer. I will continue to use this organizer with all students leading up to MCAS to assist in their assessments and classwork. Of course for MCAS, only those students with permission are able to use this support.
As we discussed the organizer, I suggested that at the start of MCAS, they warm up their brains by filling in helpful information in many places on the organizer to assist their math calculations and project work during the test. I also want to enlarge the organizer since the 8 1/2 X 11 size is too small for most students who will be using it since many students write big and need more space.
Throughout the rest of the term, we'll discuss how to use these organizers to assist their good learning and performance. It's a useful and simple lesson to include in your math teaching.
