A few years ago when I took Keith Devlin's online mathematical thinking course, it was the first time that I was exposed to using personification to understand math. Devlin kept talking about the behavior of numbers, and that made the concepts much easier to understand.
Later, I read an article about the benefits of using personification when teaching new concepts. It's a student-friendly way to teach as it helps students to understand new ideas and concepts. Today students will personify the "experience" of an ice orb as it changes phases from liquid to solid to gas. Their comics will include how the orb's particle movement changes, and the kinds of energy that creates that physical change. Later we'll essentially play with the orbs to learn more about the states of matter, and the types of energy that creates phase changes.
I think it's a good idea to give students a fun way to reflect and think about a concept. I hope that creating their own comic strips either online or with paper will be a good way to do this.
