Math Lesson: September 9, 2015

The detail at the beginning of the school year is dense. There are so many little pieces to consider as we put together the school machine. Today's math lesson was successful, and now we'll build upon that for day two.

We'll start day two by reviewing the math order:
  • Gather your supplies
  • Student homework presentation, share, and questions.
  • Teach, Learn, Practice,
  • Homework/Lesson Review
  • Video End and Transition
Tomorrow students will present their "birthday math" homework. I'll assess their presentations using an SMP presentation rubric. I'll ask the assistant teacher to check off who completed their homework and who did not so we can start to get a feel for who has homework routines and support, and who doesn't.

After that, I'll review the next assignment with students, the name value assignment. With time remaining, I'll take photos of students as they complete a number of birthday data graphs and analyses.

Then, we'll practice our end-of-lesson clean-up routine, and finally we'll listen to a short song about variables, watch a short variable movie, and practice facts with a Flocabulary fact review.
