Our buddy program is in full swing.
Every Friday the fifth graders and their kindergarten buddies get together to learn in multiple ways. We typically end the Friday gatherings with a short end-of-the-day video that matches the learning focus of that day.
Since September students have completed a number of math, writing, reading, and coding projects.
The fifth graders also drop into the kindergarten class throughout the week to lead small groups, help with set-up, work with individual students, and test out new tech ideas with the wonderful kindergarten teacher.
This week it's likely that the fifth graders will teach the kindergarten students how to play a board game. We'll have a host of classic games available such as Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, Checkers, and Trouble. I'll coach the fifth graders about how to teach game playing to young children and also how to coach good sportsmanship during the game. We'll make small game playing groups of two fifth graders and their buddies.
At the end of the session, we'll likely watch one or both of the videos below, videos which may inspire the students to create their own board games and teach them how to play with a good attitude too.
