2014-2015 Wish List

It's that time of year when I am reviewing the year's efforts in light of next year's needs.  Hence, the wish list: (note I've bolded areas for greater study and will continue to add links)

ELA
  1. Continued, similar efforts in the area of writing--a successful initiative including nightly writing home study in the first semester, Google writing threads, SRSD, genre focus, mentor texts, interdisciplinary units, and more.
  2. Continued building of reading workshop program including current collection, new books, reading response, fluency focus, and online share.
  3. Use of Lexia to support students' reading/writing, and managing students' Lexia levels with greater detail.
  4. Greater use of other technologies to support students' writing and reading growth and engagement
MATH
  1. Continued adherence to 90-minute math (30 minutes numeracy, 60 minutes concept), blended curriculum, quick-feedback home study sites such as Khan Academy, That Quiz, and Xtra Math.
  2. Greater regular emphasis on the SMPs and problem solving.
  3. Continued use of standards-based scope and sequence.
SCIENCE
  1. Greater attention to hands-on science. Students are eager for this, and I will be looking for more ways to make this happen.
  2. Continued interdisciplinary, project-base, blended study units.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
  1. Continued learning related to advocacy, share, and communication in an effort to develop my teaching/learning program for the benefit of children.
  2. Focus on the details of the fourth grade program--shoring up the weak areas after analysis of test results, parent/student surveys, self reflection, and evaluations.
  3. Organization and synthesis of professional blog.
MATERIALS
  1. More beanbags.
  2. More storage units.
  3. Creation/Science Exploration supplies.
In the meantime, I'll focus on the students' mastery of math concepts, skills, and knowledge; terrific team research, presentation, and service learning projects, and regular in-class, online, and written response to students' efforts to develop growth and learning.
