Advocacy for betterment

I listened to the short piece about courageous Fannie Lou Hamer, a Black woman who worked for voter registration and a woman who endured violence because of her advocacy for equal rights. To think of her getting beat up by police officers simply because she wanted to vote, angers me and makes me wonder about how I can work against the systematic racism that exists in our country--what can I do?

Education
Reading White Fragility and discussing the book with a group of women who desire change is a step in the right direction. The more I know, the better I'll be able to work for positive change. I have to learn more.

Strength
You have to be strong to advocate well. We can become personally strong when we make time, get smart, and build good capacity for advocacy. Ridding my life of unnecessary weights on my time, energy, and capacity will make me stronger for this work.

Commitment
Make a commitment to act in ways possible to make change--seek those opportunities, commit, and follow through.
