Rehearsal: Biography Project

This morning students will rehearse acting in character. In the past, we've never had an extra day to truly practice this part of the project--time to think about what it means to act in character with depth and purpose.

As we think about this today, we'll do the following:
  1. Students will look over the fictional interviews they wrote.
  2. I'll ask students, 'What do you think it means to act in character? What's involved?" As we discuss this, we'll think back to the Ben Franklin performance we saw earlier in the year.
  3. Then I'll model this with one of the student's subjects, Charles Schulz, and give them some time to research with the following activities and guide:
    1. Watch an interview or portrayal video of less than five minutes online about the person they are researching.
    2. Look up what happened in the years your subject lived using our class timeline and Internet.
    3. Allow students an opportunity to act in character with a double line in which they travel up and down sharing the answers to these questions with each classmate:

I found a few links to inspire students' costume design. I'll add to this list soon.
