Better Days

Teaching is much like hiking up and down small hills with some plateaus and a few steep climbs and declines now and then. I guess that's a lot like life too. There are rarely two days that are the same, and amongst the challenges there are days like today--good days with lots of fruitful learning. Today children were on task, helping each other, asking lots of questions, and solidifying a lot of learning. Why such a change from yesterday's lessons which were a bit tense and filled with angst. The answer could be any of these:
  • More engaging learning experience--student like the ready feedback that Google form tests provide
  • Profiting from yesterdays, lengthy, but important review
  • A bit of change in the classroom set up and assigned partners
  • The results from a letter I sent home to parents outlining the current focus and events to come
Whatever the right answers, it was a good day, and we all love good days of teaching and learning.

The rest of the week will be more of the same. Tomorrow we'll do a grade-level mock MCAS, then review a few more math concepts. Thursday will find students taking a system-wide test and starting on another math review packet, and on Friday they'll engage in science and math reviews as well as time for buddies. Onward.
