Thursday Musings: October 2018

It was a typical school week filled with a host of expected and unexpected events. As expected the student teacher in my room took over, and she did a terrific job. Her take-over allowed me to have some significant teaching time with small groups as well as some good planning and prep time related to upcoming learning. That was a success.

Students prepped for and took a math place value unit test. Most students did quite well and some need a bit of reteaching. The unit moved faster than I support, however, the good news is that many learned a lot and we will work with those who met with challenge to secure those standards during our upcoming RTI efforts.

With regard to my practice goal, it was a fairly good week. I still have a few students to catch up with to make sure they complete the expected practice. I'll make time to help those students complete that practice.

We had a beautiful day for our field trip to Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA. It's a great museum that offers students a chance to experience what it is like to live in colonial times. The children were very happy throughout the trip. In addition there were many connections to multiple units we are teaching throughout the curriculum which was terrific.

Since I have a personal day tomorrow due to a special family event, I'm looking forward to next week which will find students continuing their RTI efforts in reading, possibly beginning RTI efforts in math, starting the addition and subtraction with whole numbers and decimals unit in math, and having a full day devoted to science. Onward.
