Mindset Mathematics: Setting the Stage for Joyful Math Learning (Two)

As I continue to read Boaler's book, I am thinking about what I need to do to set the stage for good teaching and learning in math.

Tools
  • Journals with space for words, pictures/models, algebraic equations, number--space to delve into specific learning challenges and space for students to reason on their own.
  • Sharpened color pencils to help students delineate concepts and parts as they reason with math models, problems, and concepts.
  • Time: We can't rush new concepts--new concepts take time to explore and make sense of before they can be compressed into easily retrievable bites of information.
  • Signage of big ideas to lead the teaching and learning of educators and students. Turning Boaler's main points into mini posters is helpful with regard to infusing her research into daily discourse and activities.
