Today's Focus: February 1, 2018

Today I'll focus in on a number of specific concepts/skills with students

Division in Multiple Ways
Students will review the area model, traditional algorithm, partial quotient and dividing by powers of 10. We'll review these processes with models, word problems, decomposing numbers, and calculations.

Math Exercises
With my RTI group we'll look over the week's home study, discuss it, and work on areas of greatest challenge. I want to have some fact charts and the MCAS math chart ready for that too.

Reading Biographies
With my small comprehension-focused reading group, we'll look at a number of biographical articles about Albert Einstein. We'll start with what we know and what we are wondering about. Then we'll read an easy article. After that we'll discuss what we learned and what we still want to know. Then we'll read an article that's a bit more complex. We'll discuss what we know now, and then we'll read an even more complex article. I'll discuss with them the advantage of starting with your questions and knowledge when doing research then building up from easy to more complex articles, books, and other resources to learn more. I'll explain why this is a brain-friendly way to read and learn.

Meetings
The focus of both educator meetings today will be mainly how teachers can support a learning/teaching environment that leads to best possible service to students. For teachers to teach well, their voice, choice, and positive working conditions are greatly important. Too often in schools, due mainly to what I consider an outdated organizational structure, educators' voices and choices are not considered when it comes to what they need and what they can do to teach well. Today at both meetings I'll have a chance to be apart of conversations that reach for greater teacher voice and choice--I'm happy to see this happening in a way that has potential to make significant positive change.
