Choose Positivity

There are countless areas that call for our critique, and it's true that criticism when used well serves to improve programs, endeavor, and events. Yet there's also good rationale for leaning towards those areas of positive effort and result.

I want to lean in that positive direction in the days ahead looking at what's possible rather than what's not possible.

Math Labs
In the days ahead, I'll focus on creating a number of hands-on, standards-based math labs to grow students understanding of a number of math concepts.

Math Skills and Standards
We'll continue our use of small math study booklets, teamwork, coaching, and assessment to learn lots of standards-based math skills, concepts, and knowledge.

Science Labs and STEAM
Students will continue to engage in a large number of science labs and STEAM projects.

Class Community
We'll engage in lots of short student-centered class meetings and discussions to boost self regulation, community decision making, teamwork, and responsibility.

Reading
Reading will support learning in multiple areas as well as project work and enjoyment.

Special Events
Expert speakers, field studies, project/problem based learning, and celebrations will occur throughout the months ahead. These special events will propel the curriculum and teamwork forward.

To arrive at the end of the year in a place of pride and satisfaction means putting the critique mostly aside right now to focus in on the positive, promising aspects of the school program. There will be time for the research and advocacy related to critique later on.
