Fraction Exploration Continued: Which Fraction is Greater?

After students have explored fractions by making Google fraction bars, folding fraction bars, and using grid strips to make fraction bars, students will work together to compare fractions.

That comparison will begin with a number of exercises where students have to accurately place fractions on the number line. Then students will work with their partners to compare two fractions.

Once we've discussed the comparisons, we'll move on to discuss what it means to simplify fractions using models, GCF and LCM.

We'll then look at equivalent fractions, and after that addition and subtraction of fractions, and then multiplication and division.

Each lesson builds upon the one before it, the path changes a bit each day dependent upon students' response to the lesson. Every year the course is a bit different due to this factor.
