Today we'll step back to focus on strategy more than content.
Using a number of fairly easy to solve math word problems, we'll use the acronym RICE to lead our study.
I'll first model the use of RICE with a focus on careful reading, visualization, strategy choice, calculation, and communication.
Then I'll ask students to take a risk and come up to teach the class the following problems.
In the afternoon, students will take the final part of a system-wide assessment that's focused on math problem solving.
As they take the test, I'll walk around to see who applies the strategies we reviewed.
