I count 38 math standards for fourth grade.
This week is the State test, and we're at week 29: (8 months X 4 weeks) - 3 weeks vacation = 29.
So that's 38/29 approximately 40/30 = 1 1/3 standards a week.
The standards vary in depth so there needs to be some play in the time, and a few standards are easily combined.
Hence, the standards altogether do seem doable for a year's teaching time.
With that in mind, I may try a standard-by-standard approach next year giving each standard deep attention including introduction, visual models, paper/pencil and online practice, projects and problems, vocabulary, and assessment.
For now, one day before the last test, we'll take some time to review each standard by completing one or more problems related to the standard. Students will work with partners. This is a first try for this kind of comprehensive standards base review, let's see if what works well, and what needs revision.
If you want to try it out, follow this link (note this is only a first draft, there's a number of typos to clean up). Let me know if you have ideas for revision.
