How Do You Learn?

How do you learn?

I believe that collaboration benefits when we understand how we learn, and we share that information with each other as we embark on teaching/learning collaboration.

Here's how I learn?

1. I keep an ongoing list of learning pursuits similar to food on the shelves in my kitchen  When I make dinner most nights, I open the cabinet think about what we want and make the dinner.  Similarly, I match my time, mood, and expectations to my learning list each day: What do I feel like? What am I in the mood for? What's timely? What's critical?

2. I read daily, write often, and chat weekly about multiple topics.  I add the insights, new ideas, and questions to my learning list.

3. I choose primary projects well in advance, and work away at those projects using end-to-start planning.  I revise regularly as I learn new information, and I reach out along the way to gain greater perspective, review, and ideas.

4. I step back often from projects. Lead time gives me that luxury, and I also share a lot which brings many other voices into the work--those ideas inform/assess my work.

5. At the end of every project, I assess and make notes to inform future similar or same projects.

Hence, my learning style is ongoing. The vision that leads all the work is good living and good teaching, a vision that's continually pruned and shaped.

How do you learn?  How is your process similar or different than mine?  I'm curious.
