Changing Words Changes Practice.

Changing the way we talk about the work we do can make a significant difference in our efforts and effect.

Here are some word changes that have made a significant difference for me.

It's not school, it's a learning community.

I don't teach, I mentor and coach.

Instead of professional development, it is professional learning and share.

Rather than obedience, I strive for engagement.

It's not lesson planning, instead it is learning design.

Also learning experience replaces lesson.

And for the most part, educator replaces teacher and leader.

Test is replaced by assessment.

Performance standard takes the place of subject grade.

"High flyer" is replaced by independent, confident learning.

What descriptive word changes have changed your professional practice?  Have you seen a list like this? If so, please send the link.  I plan to reflect more on this.
