Understanding Builds Respect

Classroom teachers intersect with almost every department in a school system. That's because all departments are directed at serving students well, and classroom teachers work with a diversity of students most of the time every day.

Understanding the roles, goals and direction of departments and individuals helps to build respect amongst departments and individuals.

What is your role with regard to students?

What is your goal with regard to student learning and engagement?

What is your direction with regard to your work?

Understanding the answers to those questions can really help educators to work well together.

For me, I see my role as the following:
  • Know each child well including a child's interests, passions and learning needs.
  • Know the curriculum and standards well.
  • Knowledge of the best tools, materials, experiences and information to teach children well.
  • A vibrant daily routine and pattern that meets the needs and interests of students in engaging, profitable ways.
  • Clear, concise communication with all members of the learning team i.e. students, families, educators, administrators and other staff.
My goal is to meet each student's needs with engagement, personalization and best practice.

My direction is to increase my knowledge of tools, learning, curriculum and cognition to best effect student learning with engagement.

What is your role, goal and direction as an educator? How can we intersect to serve children well?    Understanding builds respect, and discussing roles, goals and direction develops understanding.
