Dr. Barbara Sheffels, a local geologist, volunteers her time each year to teach students in our school system about rocks, minerals and plate tectonics.
Students are fortunate to learn via Dr. Sheffels' experience, study and carefully crafted lessons that include multiple maps and hands-on models.
School systems and students gain when local experts volunteer their time and expertise. Children have the chance to see and talk to an expert in the field, while teachers are able to see the expert convey their lessons with specific disciplinary knowledge.
Do you host local experts? How are those programs organized?
We are indebted to Dr. Sheffels' thoughtful work and time.
