I admit that test season has me a bit stressed. There are many tests to prep for and many tests for students to take. It's not the time to consider whether this is positive or not, since the tests are here and it's my job to prepare students for these tests as well as I can.
So what am I going to do?
We're reviewing the content in multiple ways via practice tests, home study packets, whole class lessons, and online exercises. Games would be fun, but there's so much to review that it's important to give students a chance to review the content they've learned all year in efficient ways at this point.
There's extra help sessions too.
The year's been filled with multiple venues for learning math. There's been some projects, games, activities, model making and more.
So we'll continue this blitz of study for the next four weeks. Then the tests will be mostly done and we'll venture forward to the project based learning time of year. In my opinion that's more engaging and child-friendly, yet I also know that good learning is balanced and some of the explicit test prep and discreet math practice does help to create a strong foundation for future learning too. Onward.
