Classroom Snapshots

Looking forward to more Little Bits exploration.
Positivity Matters
Two boys working together on a math problem. One is hunched over, frustrated, huffing and puffing. The other turns to him and says nicely, you're not going to learn with that bad attitude. Then the first boy gives it more energy.  Nice, so much more powerful than if I said it myself.

Lucrative
I tell the students about a Harvard study published this week. I say what are two actions that researchers at Harvard Business School say lead to a lucrative career?  Then I ask if anyone knows what lucrative means? They guess, and finally someone comes up with it. They never did guess what the two actions were, so then I told them.

Later, I ask a girl at recess what she wants to be when she grows up. She says that she wants to have a lucrative career and make a lot of money. I tell her she might enjoy becoming a venture capitalist. We discuss what that is, and she says it sounds interesting.

STEAM
During STEAM students explored with Little Bits, completed math assignments, broke open and analyzed an old phone, made popsicle stick creations, and learned on the computer--no need to motivate as students were quick to investigate on their own with friends. I think Ira Socol would like this.

The Kindergartners' First Day
The kindergartners rejoined our school this year after being at a K school in years past--what joy to see them, watch them play, and hear their laughter and stories.  I'm so glad they're back.
