Back to basics school program

If the school I work in adopts the preferred plan presented yesterday at school committee, it will be a back-to-basics school program. There won't be the space or supervision for collaborative, creative learning. Instead it will be a stiff, sit-at-your-desk and work-on-your-computer program. How will I manage this back-to-basics school program?

Daily Routine
Each day we'll follow a similar daily routine that includes the following:

• One hour of shared reading 
• One hour of individual reading
• One hour of math 
• One hour of science or social studies
• One hour of specialist subjects
• One hour of lunch and recess combined

Tech Focus

Since we will likely have to close down now and then due to virus spread, I will begin the year teaching students how to learn virtually with their computers. I'll teach them all kinds of computer skills so they can use their computers as intelligent assistants that provide them with practice, access to good books, research sites, and more. 

Outdoor Learning

When possible, we'll learn outside. Last year, that learning was limited due to mosquito born illnesses so that's a concern.

Parent/Teacher Meetings

Hopefully all of those meetings will take place virtually to limit exposure to one another. 

That's the plan.
