Students learn more from our actions than our words. They also learn more by regular attention to good learning habits.
As I think of this, I am thinking of our "All stop and read" mornings which happen four mornings a week. It's easy to fill that time with other activities, but when we dedicate ourselves to preserving that time, the benefits for students are great. So today, I'll honor that time and begin reading Michelle Obama's autobiography, Becoming. This provides good modeling for reading and for our upcoming signature traditional biography project.
Similarly I'll focus on our good order of learning when it comes to math with a short engaging introduction, lots of time for collaborative practice, and a share at the end of the lesson. This is a good order of study and with regular attention to this effort, students' math skills, knowledge, and concept grow.
We'll end the day with the completion of a class film, A Little Princess. This film has a lot to teach young children and is also a great film for a common, positive team building experience. The next film I hope to show is Miracle at Moreaux, another film with valuable lessons.
As much as the value of all the lessons we plan with and for students is the value of what we do and what we model each day because students follow our language, activities, and lead.
